Franchise is getting stronger in Poland

The number of restaurants, bars and pub in Poland is constantly growing. Most of them are belongs to franchise chains.

Since the beginnig of 2005 dozen new franchise chains have apperared in Polsih market, including a few foreing ones. Most of them are fast food concepts and food service systems, but there are also chains offering typpically Polish quisine such as “pierogi”. Many owners of single pizzerias also start thinking of developing their businesses by franchisnig – says Andrzej Krawczyk, Director of Franchise Department in PROFIT system consulting company.

After a few years of stagnancy Polish food srevice market is now growing again. The value of Polish market grew in 2004 by 10%, but the turnover of the whole sector estimsted at 16,5 billion zł is still much lower compared to other european countreis such as France, Germany and even Czech Republic. There are over 8 thousand pubs, 6,5 thousand restaurants in Poland. About 10% of Polish market belongs to fast foods restaurants (over 7 thousand units), but international chains have the dominant position here (McDonald’s, Pizza Hut/KFC, and Telepizza. Some of domestic chains (Pizza Dominium and Mr Hamburger) are also growin fast.
